چکیده

for an Invited Paper for the MAR11 Meeting of The American Physical Society New Optical Absorption Bands in Atomic Layer Superlattices1 JAMES ECKSTEIN, Depertment of Physics, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL Using atomic layer-by-layer molecular beam epitaxy, atomic layer superlattices can be constructed that exhibit new electronic, optical and lattice effects not present in the individual components. In particular, new optical transitions giving rise to sharp absorption peaks can be created by placing a layer of a material with occupied source states next to a layer of another material with unoccupied destination states. We combine atomic layers of SrTiO3 and LaMnO3 into superlattice structures with component layers as thin as single monolayer and find a new absorption band due to a transition from manganeseto titanium-derived states. The energy of the new transition depends on how the bands line up at the interface. Furthermore, a substantial shift of spectral weight occurs as well, while retaining a constant sum rule. Quantum state engineering with ultra-short-period (AlN)m/(GaN)n superlattices for narrowband deep-ultraviolet detection.

Ultra-short-period (AlN)m/(GaN)n superlattices with tunable well and barrier atomic layer numbers were grown by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy, and employed to demonstrate narrowband deep ultraviolet photodetection. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray reciprocal space mapping confirm that superlattices containing well-defined, coherently strained GaN and AlN layers as...

We performed a nanoscale confocal absorption spectral imaging to obtain the full absorption spectra (over the range 1.5–3.2 eV) within regions having different numbers of layers and studied the variation of optical transition depending on the atomic thickness of the MoS2 film. Three distinct absorption bands corresponding to A and B excitons and a high-energy background (BG) peak at 2.84 eV dis...

Quasiparticle states in superconducting superlattices

Abstract. The energy bands and the global density of states are computed for superconductor / normalmetal superlattices in the clean limit. Dispersion relations are derived for the general case of insulating interfaces, including the mismatch of Fermi velocities and effective band masses. We focus on the influence of finite interface transparency and compare our results with those for transpare...

Metalorganic chemical vapor deposition growth of InAs/GaSb type II superlattices with controllable AsxSb1-x interfaces

InAs/GaSb type II superlattices were grown on (100) GaSb substrates by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). A plane of mixed As and Sb atoms connecting the InAs and GaSb layers was introduced to compensate the tensile strain created by the InAs layer in the SL. Characterizations of the samples by atomic force microscopy and high-resolution X-ray diffraction demonstrate flat surface m...
